Unchained
        - Maurine Williams

I cannot touch a star
hold moonlight in my hand
I know that nature's beauty
is never bought or canned.

The fragrance of the rose
or honeysuckle vine
wafted on evening air
is never solely mine.

For grandeur of country meadows
with all their varied hues
in sunlight or in shadow
I can never pay my dues.

The earth’s unchained beauty
is free for all to see
if we open our eyes
and are happy to let it be.
