No Sweet Silence
- Maurine
WilliamsI shall keep no sweet silence
when purple asters bloom
and bird songs fill the air.
I'll not sit in my room
with books around my chair.
I shall keep no sweet silence
when buttercups are nodding
in a sun-drenched meadow's glare
but run with spirit prodding
to court their beauty there.
I shall keep no sweet silence
when autumn colors shout
their hymns to nature's ways.
I'll be the first fool out
to join them in their praise.
